Scouts of the World Award

The Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is an international award initiated by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) with over 50 National Scout Associations taking part. In the UK this award is exclusive to Network Members.

SOWA challenges you to think about global issues and how they impact on communities through planning and delivering your own community development project. This could take place anywhere in the world!

The award will support you to take action and work to improve the lives or environment of other people, you'll also gain invaluable experience relevant both for future careers, study and towards other Awards in Scouting (Community Impact, QSA and DofE).

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

The Duke of Edniburgh Award is non-competitive range of activities chosen by the participant which is an award universally recognised across the world by Universities, Employers and makes young people stand out from the crowd on these applications.

North East Scotland Scouts is the biggest provider of this award in our area, we welcome young people to sign up with their local unit and taking on the challenge alongside other top awards on this page.

Explorer Belt

The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It is a chance to take part in a ten day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life. It prepares you for a life of travel, being able to work as a team across another country, meet new people from around the world and work towards discovering culture and customs in that country.

Doing an Explorer Belt is truly a once in a lifetime award which positively changes your outlook, making you ready to contribute to society back home.

Young Leaders Scheme

 
The Young Leaders' Scheme is just one of the exciting programme elements in the Explorer Scout section. All leaders in the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and Scout Section who are between the ages of 14 and 18 must be members of a Young Leaders Unit. It allows this age group to volunteer with a section and gain valuable leadership skills as well as voluntary experience for their CV.
